(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Foil fencer Michael Dudey (Bellaire, Texas) earned his first Junior World Cup medal on Saturday when the 18-year-old took him the bronze at the London Junior Foil World Cup in Great Britain.

Dudey’s teammate Michael Woo (Wayne, N.J.) also advanced to the final rounds where he placed eighth.

Dudey opened the table of 64 with a decisive win over Luca Gualazzini (ITA), 15-9, which he followed with a 15-3 victory against Ksawery Nowosielski (POL).

Woo defeated U.S. teammate Jeremy Goldstein (Westport, Conn.), 15-9, in the table of 64 and Evgeniy Filippov (RUS), 15-13, in the next round.

In the table of 16, Dudey defeated Filippo Guerra (ITA), 15-11, and Woo edged Kirill Zhukov (RUS), 15-13.

With the United States as the only other team besides Italy to qualify two or more athletes into the top eight, Dudey won his quarter-final bout against Maxime Pauty (FRA), 15-14.

Woo finished eighth after a 15-8 loss to 2011 Cadet World medalist Alexander Choupenitch (CZE).

In the semifinals, Dudey lost to eventual champion Daniele Garozzo (ITA), 15-9, and ended the day with a bronze medal win.
