This past weekend, Space City Fencing Academy had a strong presence at the Duke University’s Fencing Classics 2025, with four alumni competing in elite collegiate fencing tournaments.
The annual Duke fencing showcase featured two premier events: the Deguinet Classic (Men’s Tournament) and the Miller Classic (Women’s Tournament), drawing top NCAA fencing programs from across the country.
Deguinet Classic – Men’s Collegiate Fencing Tournament
On Saturday, the Deguinet Classic at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, brought together some of the nation’s strongest men’s collegiate fencing teams.
Competing schools included:
- Duke University
- Air Force Academy
- Brandeis University
- Boston College
- Johns Hopkins University
- New York University (NYU)
- University of Notre Dame
- Penn State University
- University of North Carolina
Representing Space City:
- Laith Elkousy fenced for Duke University
- Omar Reyes competed for Johns Hopkins
- Farr Dickson, captain of the NYU foil team, demonstrated leadership and competitive excellence throughout the tournament
The Deguinet Classic continues to be one of the most competitive early-season collegiate fencing tournaments in the country.
Miller Classic – Women’s Collegiate Fencing Tournament
On Sunday, competition continued with the Miller Classic, the women’s division of the Duke University fencing weekend.
Emma Griffin represented the University of Notre Dame, testing her skill against top collegiate talent in one of the premier women’s college fencing events of the season.
Space City Fencing Alumni Competing at the NCAA Level
Both tournaments highlighted the depth of talent in collegiate fencing, offering fierce competition and valuable experience for all participants. Space City Fencing is proud to see our athletes competing at a high level on some of the nation’s most prestigious collegian fencing programs.
