Space City Fencers Shine at Third Coast Cup in Grand Rapids
Over the weekend, a dedicated group of Space City Fencers traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan to compete in the GRAFA RYC/RJCC/ROC USA Fencing Regional Third Coast Cup. Despite the small team size, the athletes delivered strong performances against a highly competitive regional field.
Leading the way was John Griffin, who had an outstanding tournament run, earning 🥈 Silver in the Division 1-A event. His performance showcased both skill and consistency against experienced opponents, highlighting his continued growth at a high level of competition.
Ben Clark also had a strong showing in the Juniors event, battling through a tough field to reach the round of 16, ultimately finishing in 10th place. His performance demonstrated resilience and the ability to compete deep into elimination rounds.
DJ Teh delivered one of the most consistent performances of the weekend, reaching the round of 16 in three separate events Cadet, Juniors, and Division II. DJ finished 9th in Cadet, 15th in Juniors, and 9th in Division II, an impressive display of endurance and versatility across multiple categories.
Competing across multiple events and advancing into direct eliminations is no small feat, and all three athletes demonstrated determination, focus, and a willingness to challenge themselves against top regional competition.
We are incredibly proud of John, Ben, and DJ for representing Space City Fencing with excellence this weekend. Their performances continue to reflect the hard work and dedication that define our club.
Congratulations to all three fencers on a fantastic showing!
